The real pitty
behind the shades

Aries isn't a mascot created for a meme coin. He's a real rare-color blue-nose pit bull, my best friend, and the inspiration behind Pitty Shades.

I've had Aries since he was a puppy. I spent countless hours training him, but somewhere along the way it became more than training. He learned how I talk, what I expect, and what I'm asking him to do.

My brother has said it many times:

"That dog doesn't speak dog. He speaks Heath."

That's probably the best description of our relationship I've ever heard.

Aries could balance a piece of steak on his nose and leave it there until I told him he could have it. I could tell him to stay, walk twenty cars away, and he'd still be sitting exactly where I left him.

For several years, Aries entertained people around Nashville with his tricks, personality, hats, clothes and shades. He even caught the attention of cameras around the Country Music Awards while we were walking downtown.

Once, a man who had watched Aries and me together offered me $20 just to tell him how I could walk so far away and Aries wouldn't move.

I told him:

"He's my best friend. I've had him since he was a baby. He understands me."

The next day, the same man came back with his son. He told me he'd thought about my answer and believed it deserved more than $20.

Then he handed me another $100.

That's the kind of impression Aries has made on people his whole life.

He's chased Frisbees, played in rivers, entertained strangers and shown a lot of people another side of a breed that doesn't always get a fair shake.

He's older now. He's slowing down some and doesn't hear as well as he once did. He might miss a Frisbee he would've snatched out of the air a few years ago.

But he's still Aries.

And he can still rock the shades.

That's where Pitty Shades begins.
